Richie, thanks so much for posting this. I'm sure the docs have told you all this but these are very good signs. I work with many students who have recovered from head injuries and when they are as young as Joseph they often make a full recovery especially when showing such early improvements. It's all about stimulation, therapy, and doing the work early on and it sounds like he's getting ideal care. Thanks again!

Richie I would think the doctors would tell him there will be things about the accident he will probably never remember. This is true and he shouldn't worry about it I have had a few racing accidents I remember nothing about a person's mind takes care of that. Will have him on the prayer list again Sunday.

I got another update on Joseph. Also, there has been an account set up for him for anyone who wants to make a donation to the cause. To use Paypal, you can use Justin's account. The email is jdnwaco@gmail.com
Update: Joseph continues to improve. He is eating well and has gained almost 4 pounds since he has been at the rehab hospital. I say he is eating well meaning that he is able to eat unassisted. He likes brownies and eats a lot of them. But he is eating his other foods also. He also drinks a lot of apple juice and chocolate milk.
He goes to the bathroom by himself and he is able to dress/undress himself with no assistance. He is able to take a shower unassisted (with someone standing right outside the shower in case he needs assistance) and wash his hair.
He has very busy days. Most of his morning involves going back and forth for various therapy sessions, then he has about a 2-2.5 hour break for lunch and normally a nap. Then he has another round of therapy. The schedule is different each day, but they post a copy of the schedule on the outside of his door every morning so that he knows what to expect.
Today he will start some counseling with child life which will be psychological counseling about the accident, any anger or other emotions he may not be willing to talk freely about. She said they have games which are designed to facilitate talking about hard topics.
Over the weekend he had a lot of visitors and really enjoyed that. It was a little overwhelming when there were a lot of people there at the same time, but he handled that very well. Sometimes he would say he needed to take a nap or that he was sleepy. That is his way of saying I need a break from stimulous. One of the neurologists explained that all of our brains take breaks many times during the day and we never even notice it, but when his brain gets overwhelmed he gets tired.
Yesterday during therapy he walked up and down the stairs one flight with the therapist. They have all kinds of games and such that help get him moving. He takes walks to/from an outdoor play area where he has discovered a green anole (what many would call the common household 'chameleon') and likes to look for it when he is out there. He can tell you a lot about it.
The doctors and therapists have a weekly conference about the progress of each patient and that is this afternoon, so we should get a report after that I suspect and I will send out another update after we get that info.
Thanks to all,
Willie, Kathy, Becca & Joseph

Thank you for sharing this with us Richie. And thank you Lord for answering so many prayers. We'll keep the prayers coming and You keep the blessings coming this family's way.
