Yep... I had just broke off on a stump and was frustrated.

I guess my wife awoke from her slumber after hearing the color chain of words coming from the bow of the boat.

I just bought that DD22 yesterday... Sigh.

I didn't even notice the game warden easing up on me until my wife alerted me to it.

He pulled up to us ( I was trying to wrap my broken line around my handle all fast and mad at the world.)

Warden: good evening

Me: hey how's it going! (Not looking up from my line nor paying attention to his proximity to me or my rod tip)

Warden: (Very angry) EXCUSE ME SIR!!!

I looked up and realized that I had whipped his left cheek three or four times with the 7'10" Skeet Reese Crankbait Rod!!!

He... Was... Mad...

Needless to say, I got the most thorough, by the book, Warden inspection known to man.

I didn't pack my wife's license on this trip so he gladly cited he for that... Totally my fault.

After it was all done, his cheek was still holding a marvelous red hue.

Were you on Fork? Just curious, was your wife fishing too or was she just in the boat watching you fish? Had one approach me in the same manor on Tyler a while back, though he did observe us from afar before quietly approaching.
Son and I were fishing and my daughter was just watching. He never asked if she had a license. Checked for the usual(extinguisher, throw cushion, license, registration) and left.

How did he cite you for your wife for not having a license if she wasn't fishing?!?! Was she fishing and stopped and he possibly witnessed it from a distance.

I don't know, sounds to me like he clearly didn't realize you didn't intended to hit him in the face with your rod and was offended. I don't see the need for him to roll up on you by surprise. Clearly it seems he saw what he needed to see from a distance to legitimize making contact so at that point why sneak up on someone? This could have easily happened to anybody. Personally, I have cast in front other fisherman by total accident simply because I had no idea they had trolled right up on me and in such cases I didn't feel bad about it. Dude is lucky he didn't get a hook stuck in his face. If the general public is expected to use common sense it would be nice if those enforcing the laws for the public would do the same. And I realize this is just one isolated person and isn't reflective of all wardens across the state.

Well, I have a good one..Went to a local lake, where the Game and Fish are always there in force. Had one of those days at work, AND I WAS GOING FISHING. Well, it wasn't the best idea, as I got my butt handed to me by Mother Nature, as winds(and my aluminum boat--Basstracker 175) blew me up on stump after stump, just a miserable outing. So finally after dusting off my ego, and rubbing my bruises, I headed in. Well, after not smelling a fish, I get to the landing, and 2 Wardens are working both landings. The young one waits till I'm straping up my boat, and starts asking if I caught anything, and I said emphatically "NO". He asks to check my livewell, and I said "Knock yourself out". Well, the carpet tolerances are so tight, that you can't open it from the ground, you have to stand over the livewell, and pop a hernia to get it open...So, he has to jump up in the boat to lift it up, and gives a smart arse response about how I was right...Then the unexpected happens. He jumps off the side of the boat, the "youngster", on the side where my rods are strapped, and a spinnerbait catches him mid-calf. Now , he has one leg suspended with a hook in his calf, bowing my strapped rod, and one on the ground.. Kid is hollering "push the button, push the button". So I get over there, and release the line and line-trick the hook out...He then went through every regulation, fire extinguisher, throw floatation, etc....guy was really looking to give me a ticket. Oh well, I was good, so I finished loading, and was leaving the landing complex, as I passed the 2 Wardens(one with a bloody sock), and I couldn't resist.. I pulled up and hollered, "I caught the big one today" .
