Two consecutive days and two completely different outcomes.
July 4 was a terrible day. My wife caught two and I only caught 1. At least it was about a 2 lbs. Fished Rattle Traps in my usual spots and nothing! Only got hit once or twice but no hookups. We tried deep crankbaits and carolina rigs and nothing. The one fish I caught was on a T-Rig, Crawdad Culprit on a drop off. My last desperate attempt not to get skunked. We were off the water by noon and good thing. There were 6 or 7 ski boats and pontoons waiting to launch when we pulled out.
July 5, went alone this time. What a day! Fished the same spots. Same Rattle Trap. With in 20 minutes I had boated three fish. Caught a couple more then moved. This is one of two that went five pounds (forgot to get a pic of the other one.)

Caught 15 on the Rattle Trap. When that bite slowed down I moved again and went for the T-Rig. Caught 7 more up to about 2 1/2 pounds. Left at noon with boat traffic picking up.
Also got to meet a fellow TFFer, fishnbuds. Had a great chat. Nice to put a face to a name.

I bet the boat traffic on that landing strip of a lake was nuts.. I cant believe water skiers dig going to that lake.. Way to much non sense for a little lake like that.. YOu would think water skiing would be more fun if you add an occasional turn in there.. Dunlap is so narrow you have to ski straight away..

all that boat traffic got the fish all scared and spooked.

I hope we have the same 2 day results, since our day one (today) yielded very little. i think we'll try again tomorrow. We were planning to try Choke Saturday, but I think we'll give Dunlap a shot to redeem herself. It was good to meet you too Rick!

There are a couple of really rough spots when the boat traffic gets up. Its like a churned up bath tube and you really can't find a path through it. Around the corner by Schuman's beach and on down to the dam isn't too bad.
I'm fine with the boat traffic in general, we all have to share the lake, but what I think is rude is to play blaring music at 8:00 in the morning. I'm sure the neighbors don't like it either.
Usually I can get in a good four hours of fishing without too much disruption.

I want to try Choke too but all of the negative about it scares me away. I hate to drive that far, bake in the heat, and come up empty.

She accused me of holding out on her....lol
She was not happy. Dinner and a movie got me out of the dog house.
Now I am condemned to a weekend of "honey do's"....all in good fun.

Wait for late fall when the boat traffic subsides. Or go during the week when school starts.

July 4 usually isn't the best day anywhere with all the traffic on the water

It occurred to me,....I don't recall ever going fishing on the 4th of July.

Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

Today was actually not too bad until just before noon, then it got crazy. Fishing was decent today for numbers, but no size. A big dink fest!

Sounds like a day on Canyon Lake.
Not sure where the big fish go to in the summer. There are very few ledges and points to suspend off of. I'm not even sure if a thermocline develops given all of the boat traffic keeping the water churned up. That is one well aerated lake.

That lake is tricky in the Summer. I'm determined to get some big fish out of there this Summer!
