I just called Humminbird and they are out for the holiday but I'm pretty sure someone here can point me in the right direction.
I have the 1198 at console and the 788 on the bow. I currently have them working independently but would like to network the two. I would like to use just one transducer for both units. Can this be done and if so, how? Any guidance will be much appreciated.

If the 788 is the HD verson and not the DI version of the HD, you can use Ethernet to share a single transducer for 2D sonar.

There are four 788 models
788c
788ci
788ci HD
788ci HD DI

The first two are not Ethernet capable.

They can share common data.

The 788ci HD can use the 83/200 kHz crystal in the HDSI tranducer and the 1198c SI can use the 83/200 kHz transducer the 788ci HD has.

Can't mix technologies. DI and SI technologies are different and can't use the same transducer for both. You can Ethernet and share GPS Data but that's the limit since you have different sonar technology.
