Well, used a different boat ramp for fireworks watching last night; launched at Hickory Creek. Nice facility, and did find it amusing that a park employee was posted there in his pickup truck to watch the 'honor box' and make sure that everyone using the parking lot actually paid.

Anyways, we came in about 10pm or so & I tied us off to the dock, went up & backed the trailer down, being careful to hug one side of the ramp so that another boater could use the other half (the ramp is kind of narrow but is marked for two lanes). I walked back down to the boat, and as I was motoring over to the trailer, I could hear the occupants of a big pontoon boat fussing at each other about how "that jerk" should have let them get their boat out of the water first.

In the 60 seconds it took me to load my boat into the trailer & drive away, it dawned on me that I was "that jerk". Last I saw of the pontoon boat, they were still trying to load it on the trailer ... back the truck in more ... get stuck ... back boat away ... pull truck forward ... try again ... ain't the effects of alcohol great?

I launched at Westlake today and on the way in had one guy docked his boat at the dock and he just stared at us as we came in to dock. He literally hogged the whole dock and he gave us a "man possessed look." We ignored him and I got to my truck and back my trailer down the ramp. Keep in mind there was nobody at the ramp. Anyway as I walked back to get my boat and he stared at me like he wanted to throw me into the lake. He said "I was here first and i should had waited for him to trailer his boat in." I looked at the ramp and the only trailer there was mine. I thought this guy was crazy SOB. After I got my boat up and parked on the side to organize my gears and he whistled and gave us a finger salute. I still don't know what I did was wrong. Again he's got issue. Crazy people do crazy stuff.

Holidays usually lead to the best/worst (depending on who you are) boat ramp stories.

Key word here is ignore. That's the best way to handle those types.

I launched at the south ramp on Joe Pool once and when we came back to load there were two jet skis pulled across the end of the two docks which left some of their jet skis sticking out in all three ramps. They were just hanging out listening to the radio, smoking and drinking. I asked the one on the closest ramp if they could move over just a little, I didn't want to hit their jet ski. They blew up and started cussing and going on about how I didn't own the lake or the ramps and they weren't going to move. Ok then.... I back the trailer in and tried to load the boat (4Winns 190 Horizon V6 inboard) and with the wind blowing I ended up stabbing it 4 times before I got it right on the boards. They are still griping since I came close to their jet ski. I'm POd by now and figure I will have the last laugh. Once I got the bow into the V I decided to cool him down. Hehe. I trimmed up a bit, turned the drive towards him and slammed the throttle. I had no idea it would be like hitting him with a firehose!!! Washed him clean off the dock along with the smokes, cooler and everything else laying there and blew the jetski 15 ft out into the lake. My wife stood on the end of the dock reminding them that we asked them nicely and then added a few other choice words!!!

I don't think ignoring inappropriate behavior is the right thing to do, I don't tolerate it. People act that way because their used to people letting them get away with it. I realize having this opinion might not be for everyone, but I have never had a problem confronting people that can't act right.

I TRY to turn the other cheek on just ordinary ignorance or even on heightened ignorance, some times though on blatant defiance type actions, my A-hole comes to the forefront and then they realize they are just poor helpless souls with a bad attitude and a dumbazz brain. On such occasions, I try to Teach them a lesson they won't soon forget (if ever) and just maybe they will learn some manners or be less offensive, in their future boating sessions.

I did the same thing to a dude that hammered it under a bridge on Hubbard and stripped all the line off my buddies reel. Budddy wanted to chase him down so we did. Tried to talk to him real nice but he just ignored us. I kept telling him what that mono was going to do to his outdrive seals. I finally got po'd backed up to his boat and gave them all a shower. He chased me down across the lake. He was ready to go to the bank until we stood up.
