I'm new to hybrid fishing. Still trying to learn how to find them and then catch them. I fish for hybrids mainly at Foss Lake in Oklahoma. On a recent trip I found big schools feeding on the surface all over the lake. I would ease up close enough to cast but they wouldn't take anything that I offered. at first I thought I was getting to close so I started killing the motor and drifting but this didn't work either.

I slabbed, I worked a blade bait, I didn't have any Mepps with me or I would have tried Dennis's technique.

You guys have any other suggestions on what I could try ?

if they are schooling on the surface I always try silver or chartreuse Humdinger first. Silver Rattle Traps (Chrome ShadRap) work sometimes too.

I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!

Try getting a cast net and catch some big shad about 4-7 inches and perch about the same size. You can drift over flats or humps and/or when you get on a big school of fish throw them out freelined on a circle hook and rock out.... when you drift set up a Carolina rig with a 2 ounce weight, 3 ft leader and hook circle hook in the lips or eyes, check bait every 30 minutes or so and put fresh bait on

4 inch sassy shad works really good.

Fishanhunt,

Think like a fish. If 3-4" shad are getting knocked out of water then throw a 4" sassy shad with .5-.75 ounce head. Throw it out as far as possible in school and let it sink 2-5 seconds. Then start reeling in. That is were you will have to change is reel speed until you find what they want. If smaller bait they are busting use smaller bait. You can throw a slab but retreive it pretty fast and you will get a few hits but not as many as a sassy.

Live shad is the best.
