On the eve of a big weekend, I had Becka, her dad Steve, and her Brother-in-law Ryan out for a morning of fishing on Somerville. Becka's boyfriend that set the trip up, John, got called into work, so he had to miss the fun.
They were camping at Big Creek for the weekend and were hoping to have a fish fry instead of fajitas.
It did not take Becka long to be sure they had something to cook. She got a nibble, then her line started easing off, she set the hook and the fun was on. The fish circled under the boat, then under the anchor line, so I had to undo the anchor rope so she could go under the rope to the other side of the boat, then the fish decided to reverse, so she had to go under the anchor line again, and that was not all, the fish made her go under the anchor line one more time before she brought it to the boat. Becka ended up landing her personal best fresh water fish, with a 19.5# Blue.
The wind was almost non existent, which made for a lite bite, and a lot of missed hook sets. Ryan had stated he never catches any fish when fishing with the family. Well, about 30 minutes later, Ryan hooks up with a strong fighter that kept trying to pull his rod down into the water. He brought it to the boat finally and it tipped the scales at 10.25#. We moved about three times...sometimes just to get some wind while the boat was moving so we could cool off.
Ended the day with 28 cats, enough for them to have a large family fish fry for the 4th. Time for me to take a few days off and rest up. Lake is still dropping and now over 4 foot low.
All fish caught using tight line, in 6-10 foot water, on Cj's Crawdad punch bait.
