Howdy folks... ive spent all my time on the hunting forum... this is my first post over here.
My work takes me down to Port Lavaca now... last time I was there, I noticed that long pier that runs parallel with the bridge going in to the port.... does anyone know what the best bait would be to use there and if the fishing is any good?
Is there anywhere nearby there that's better?

I was out there a little over a month ago I wanted to try a different place instead of port aransas and I fished that pier and used shrimp, squid and cut mullet and the best bait out of those was the cut mullet I caught a ton of gafftops and 4 blacktip sharks the sharks where not huge just 2-3 ft , hope that helps

also, are you casting and fishing on bottom with the cut mullet or tight lining off the pier at a certain depth?

I didn't keep anything that time but I seen a bunch of people keeping the gafftops, it was real windy when I went so I fished with a double drop leader and a 4 oz spider weight and casted with my back to the bridge so away from the bridge

this is great info... appreciate it... I was playing cards at the American Legion last night and a friend told me to get a Spec Rig / Specalled Trout Rig... y'all ever use those?

Good place to fish. Bay was terribly polluted in the past by a certain company that offered me a job. Used to be signs up warning of consuming the fish. Millions of tons of mercury from an aluminum refinery. Biggest aquatic superfund site in US history. Crazy story. Sorry I'm off topic though! Squid and shrimp have done me hood in that area. Mullet is excellent for all types of fish. That's what's fun for us fresh water guys . You never know what is gonna take it
