when you are on plane the only lights you should have on are the nav lights, interior should not be a problem but rubrail lights would most likely not be legal while running.

I have 3 strips of white on either side of my champion for anchor lights and am legal when stopped but not running.

I don't know why you'd have them on when you were running. Its a bitch to see with the front deck lit up.

Man with the ticket book writes the law. They can do what they want and it's up to us to fight it or pay it.

Man with ticket book makes judgements and if you attract too much attention with your lights you will get it. Better have yes sir and no sir officer in your vocabulary, otherwise plan to fight it out in front of the judge as you have already lost round one and will not win either way.

Hmmmmmmm..ok. bang Exactly what law is broken using LED lights? Did the game warden even cite a specific regulation?
I was thinking of adding some LED lights to my rig...

When you're moving the only lights that are allowed to be on are the red/green on the bow and white on the stern. Coast guard rules and copied in TPWD rules. The led's on your deck or rub rails are not to be on when running.

I agree that it sounds misguided but contest a warning? Dont think there is anything to win or loose...you didnt get a fine. Problem is, while laws are spacific there interpretations will always be as diverse as the people interpreting them.

That doesn't make sense at all, almost ALL larger vessels run deck lights all night all the time? Somehow bass boats are dif from all other vessels? What about the ppl who run a Coleman lantern all the time?
As long as you have white in back green/red up front you are legal. Now if you had a lack of any of those I could see getting a ticket because LEDs don't qualify.

these are perfectly legal at anchor or on the tm and make a huge difference for night fishing.

I can also have the deck lights on if needed and still legal if anchored or on the tm.

Ok, that all makes sense. I was thinking about adding some 'red' deck lights (so as to not totally destroy night vision) ....but just for use in the boat at anchor. Re-rigging/etc.

thanks,

Spend some time at night in a navigable body of water trying to see the lights of traffic on the water to avoid collisions. You will side with the USCG pretty quick.

Should always have the proper lights on at night and minimize any extra lights that could cause confusion.
