remember the old agage "if it seems to good to be true..." but there are always exceptions. used kayaks are sold for various reasons. the ones being sold on these forums are mostly by people upgrading and they know the value of the yak they are selling and will expect that. on craigslist and other places you'll find yaks being sold by someone who bought it years back used it a few times and has let it sit collecting dust. they just want to get rid of it and aren't worried about getting value for it. in case you missed it, the thread below is a cautionary tale in buying any used yak. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/9066410/Slow_leak_help_needed_update_l

hopefully my last post on this forum, but what size rod and reel would you guys recommend for kayak fishing, down at our condo on the coast I have a 7 foot penn fierce rod with the 3000 penn fierce reel to match, I use that in the surf to throw 2 drop rigs and intend on using it in the bay for trout and reds, but I'd also like to have another pole for bass in freshwater, and even to use in the bay as well, but which is best for kayak? I'll take size advice and recommendations on a brand. I'm looking to spend at a max 80 dollars.

The choice of rod/reel is irrespective of whether you are kayak fishing IMO. For trout/smaller reds/bass, I would go with a medium 7' or 7'6" with fast tip. Not sure if you prefer spinning or baitcast and your budget is a bit tight, but Academy had a sale on All-Star and Castaway's -reg. $50 or 60 for $30. That leaves you $50 for a reel. If spinning, go with a 2500 series size reel - a Shimano Sahara would be a good choice - might be able to find one around that price if you shop. BPS has a couple of decent baitcasters on sale for about $70. Throw in another $20 in your budget and you're good.
Note - there are a few individuals selling NIB or LNIB reels and rods on the sale forum here......you can often get someting like new for half-price which gets you into a much better quality rod/reel.
