Have fished the lake since 82, have had many, so many great trips there that foolishly I think I know something about the lake. But every now and then like a mean school teacher she slaps you on the back of the head right when you thought all was going so well. Today on the water 4:30 till 8 PM. Fished the dark side and threw the (taco) net and caught 40 beautiful 2-4 inch shad from a well known area south. Take them to another well known area south in deep water with hopes of hoisting some trophies out of the lake. We arrive and see 4-5 boats working the same idea. Bombay is there urging sporadic fish in the box for his lucky clients and the rest of us trying to emulate his action with poorer results. All the boats wonder off but we hold true, not catching zip. Then a father & son show up, 20 yards from us. They throw the anchor and rigged EXACTLY as we are in ten drops of their 2 inch shad land ten beautiful hybrid!! TEN in a row- we still have zip. I have side scan, I can see his fish, I can see my fish. Heck, I can see my baits in my fish an nothing. Father and son have two limits they are done and gone- in 20 minutes!!! Is this real, am I even there?? What the hell is going on??
We decide beer is our only successful option and ditch the rods. I can not figure that place out after 30 plus years. One day a hero, the next day you suck.

did you spray any deeds on your hands by any chance?

The pursuit (where are the fish), rigs design and setup, scouting, the awesome feeling of casting your rigs 100+ yards out, the total focus on the fish and the elements, the outdoors... the total exhaustion at the end of your fishing day,... the cooler full of fish to bring home... Yeah, I'm going to miss bank fishing!

Deuce I didn't realize that was you. I would have come over to say hey. Stopped by to say hello to Paul. Man he was getting them! Only had a couple of hours so I was doing some sonar movies around the lake to look at later on and was doing some adjustments on the front unit. I threw a sassy in there a few times, haha that what they said to me. As soon as I think I got it going, Hubbard gets an attitude towards me.

Hubbard is stellar in the winter. Not much traffic and the fish are easier to find smile

Jeff saw you working with one of those two big flat screens , thought you were watching my fish ignore me. I'll come over and say a bigger hello next time. And I dont know about anyone being a snob but between my hard hearing and the racket on the boat in the last year with bangin on the hull I may have missed an ahoy or two.
