I am a fresh water fisherman who wants to get another taste of the saltwater action. I have rented a beach house for a week in Port Aransas Aug 23-29 and would appreciate any advice on a guide for both bay/flats and offshore fishing. When you google Port A fishing you get all kinds of results so if someone could give me a warm lead I would appreciate it.
Also, our house is right on the beach so I plan on taking the surf rod and bait caster and trying for a few sharks and whatever else. I have had moderate success with this in the past. Any other advice on what type of species I can target with the bait caster? Can you catch trout or reds in the surf that time of year?
Thank you in advance for any guidance.
Heath

I'm headed there weekend after next. I usually fly-fish, but the consensus seems to be on live shrimp down there for reds and specs. Popping corks help. I've seen sharks caught on live croaker. Flukes work well too. Lighted docks at night can be killer for trout. I would imagine you would do better for reds in the marsh and bays than the surf

I will be there this weekend, I will be fishing on the Jetty, don't know the grass situation or anything but I always catch fish there, I will use a umbrella rig with sassy shad that have pink tails, I also will throw a big chug big early and also have a big spoon. Hopefully it works, will do a follow up Sunday on how it all went

Is anyone familiar with high island? Is anyone familiar with high island? Not positive but believe High Island is up the coast from Galveston.

Big spoons off the jetty 3/4 towards the end to the end are catching some huge bull reds, also a ling was caught as well, whiting and trout were also being caught, I walked to the end for the first time, was pretty cool for sure, you can also get you to sassy shads tied on and a 3/4 oz weight below will do some good, white sassy shads with pink tails seemed to be the one

How is the seaweed on the beach at Port Aransas? We are coming down on the 26th to do some surf fishing.

I was there the 19th. lots of seaweed. But my daughter was there the 17th & 18th and there wasn't any. I also fished the 13th & 14th with no seaweed. Seems to be hit or miss. I fish on Mustang Island. Their was plenty of baitfish and Mullet in the surf.
