I had been told by a guide several years ago that he did not think there were any bass over 10 lbs. in Fayette County Lake. Something to do with the warm water temp. year round affecting the metabolism so they did not live long enough to get that big.
Well last week I caught a 9lb. 5oz. that would certainly been well over 10 in Jan.-Feb.
Has anyone heard of a 10+ being caught there in the last few years?
I expect some of you will comment about not posting pictures to back it up, but I don't have a Photobucket account and don't want to go to the trouble. Anyway, the purpose of the post is to ask the question about knowledge of 10 pounders being caught there.
Thanks

The lake record is 12.25 lbs, caught over 30 years ago. A 9+ lb fish is a giant for a power plant lake, and yes, the fish on pp lakes just don't get as big as normal lakes. There are probably a few DD fish in there, but not nearly as makny per acre as a standard lake.

Congrats on a Fayette giant. Did you catch her dead or shallow?

I haven't caught any, but I have seen them come up to the top of the water choking on a 12 in gizzard shad. The fish was 25 in long and at least 10lbs I didn't take any pictures because I wanted to try to revive him and get him right back in the water. I have no reason to believe that there aren't even bigger fish in the lake but very difficult to catch.

Can`t catch`em if your lines ain`t in the water!

Caught in about 12 ft. of water at 2:30 on a hot, calm afternoon on a Carolina rig.

A friend of mine guides on that lake and he catches a few over 10 plus every year but has yet to beat the record but has gotten close a few times.

I think all the people using water dogs and keeping their big fish from fayette has more to do with the age of the lake than the water temps.

Used to be alot more big fish in lake IMO , but I don't fish it as much as I used to either.

If the hot water was worse for the lake, explain why gibbons was producing so well years back when the plant ran all the time.

And it's a dink pond more or less now without the plant running.

It's nothing like it used to be either...

Not saying I don't believe y'all BUT a picture would be nice! I agree there use to be a lot of big fish when the grass was plentiful but not so much these days..

The lake was stocked with Florida strain bass to take the warm water. Me and a buddy talked to a Game Warden at the boat ramp about this same question,...and he said the lake is far too overstocked with smaller slot bass, taking the majority of the bait.In his words,..Wished more people would take the 14 and under out of the lake to help the bigger fish...they all eat the same food. Also being a catfishing person,..came across this post about a audit report about catfish population in the lake..being depleted due to bass eating all their spawn. Basically its going to become an overcrowded aquarium. Here is the link to the report-

Dang nice one!! I grew up and worked at that parks during high school so I have seen some big ones come out. I have not managed to get anything over 7 out of that lake but will be back out Sunday.

Never caught a DD out of fayette. I see alot of people fishing with water dogs and not knowing what the &^$& they are doing in general and the slot fish ends up dying. IMO they should make it a arti-only lake. I RARELY take home bass but when I do they are all under slot fish. http://www.youtube.com/watchv=DFYDYwK9RPc&list=PLEEFA84B51D1C2C8B
