Ok I have a 00 mercury xr6 carburated motor on 18' bassboat 25 temptest prop.. its probly too much but that's what it came with and never had issues before Had it for over 2 yrs no issues regular maintenance etc.. Yesterday while fishing I was having a problem with it gettin up on plane.. No stalling or flooding like they are known for.. its still does that too lol But when its tryin to go it just holds the nose straight up for a really long time before it planes out and gets goin.. I'm not really sure what to look for? It still goes 57mph with me and a buddy loaded for fishing.. which is s fast as its ever gone.. I habent added any weight to the boat.. motor is still trimmed down.. Everything like usual except it won't get out of the hole all of sudden any body have any ideas?

Does the prop have pvs holes? If it does take on or two out. Will make a huge difference. With the weather getting warmer its just voinhg to get worse.

the warmer weather and the summer blend gas is terrible on carb motors try a 23 tempest i think your problems with the takeoff will go away.

I had the same issue with my 03' 225 opti - spent most of last summer dragging it from one mech to another - turned out to be #4 reed valves were broken, and a few others chipped. replaced with boynson (sp) reeds and runs great. That was my story - you might have another.
Fishing in not a matter of life and death Its much more serious than that.

Do you have the plug in, if its (boat) full of water it will do that also until the water is sucked back out

I had same issue with my xr6 and it turned out to be bad reeds, sucked #6 and others chipped. I replaced with chris carsons and runs like a champ.

PVS holes are the little holes machined into the barrel of the prop, the bigger the hole the higher the stall in car speak. Exhaust shoots out of them sideways disturbing the water and making the engine spin more RPM's before biting basically to get it into the tq curve quicker. If you have black plastic plugs in there, start removing them one at a time and trying it.

Did you figure it out? mine was doing the same thing with a Trophy 24p and I changes to a Laser 24p to drop from a 4 to a 3 blade and it makes all the difference in the humid summer air. Got all the info from Steve's Custom Props.
