I have an old pelican castaway 12 ft. It isnt amazing in anyway but you can have it for free if you pick it up. I'm on the south side of Houston if you are down this way. It really just needs new straps as they are dry rotted and a few broke. Also the front hatch is a bit warped so some water can get in the hull if the waves are heavy. I never had any issues with it keeping me afloat and I am 6'2" 225. It just has pretty terrible tracking as it is a round bottom.

I have a ten year old daughter and nine year old son. I am also just getting into kayaking. For my two squids this is what I will be getting them. For the price it's hard to beat for a inexpensive starter yak, and it comes with a paddle. Price is good till 6-29 http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/produc...4417832.4417969
