My sons are 10 and 12 and they are on a mission to catch more fish! We hooked into some hybrids the other day and they've got the fever now! I'm 5 minutes from the boat ramp and my sons and I fish benbrook a lot! I don't have any fancy graphs or bait tanks on my boat, but If that's what it's gonna take to catch fish, I may have to upgrade. We troll around and get lucky every now and then, but I know we could be more consistent if we knew what we were doing. Many times I have watched the rigged out striper boats tear em up right next to us while we just watch and wish. Anybody willing to share any insight? Suggest any equipment?
Just love to fish!

First of all.....Thanks Guys Second of all.... Being Honest here. "benbrook" and "consistant" should never be in the same sentence I've been fishing Benbrook for the better part of 14 years and i have never found "consistant", now that being said the ol'e mudhole will give up the goods at any time, also at any time she will humble you. Last couple of trips have yielded short hybrids and sandies for me. A few people at marina have asked where are the good hybrids........I cant answer that You've got a couple more guides to choose from, Mike Acosta and also Randy Wood, both of them have forgotten more thani will ever learn about benbrook, along with some benbrook "regulars" that are good at what they do, so i'm a couple rungs down on the food chain out there. As far as you "trolling" that's not bad for benbrook at all, expecially this time of year, bait was working up untill a couple weeks ago. I used to live bait up untill a couple years ago and decided to go strickly :artificial", i have recently went back to live bait, but after last couple trips, im pretty sure my tank will go in the garage and the down riggers will be on the boat, atleast for benbrook. Trolling works out there, when you hang a couple stop and drop a slab, when the school moves, troll around again if thats what you like to do. I say that because last couple times, fish are scattered and not at all grouped up, atleast not long at all. Hope i havent busted your bubble about benbrook, it's just a "tough" lake. I only run trips on weekends, as of right now, i have june 29th open for afternoon trip, other than that it will be end of july. Im leavinf for Destin Florida july 12th for 18 days.

Brad, sorry, I left you out of the "hybrids guides" by mistake, I still think of you as "black bass guide"

No problem Kerry. I am doing some remodeling on my house and my sisters house this summer and probably won't get to fish much until this fall. If you get on them this summer, let me know as I might squeeze a couple of hours in especially if they are hitting topwater. Haha. I am a black bass guide and proud of it.

I have always done great with sandies and a few hybrid on 1/4oz rattle traps (chrome and blue) around that hump about 200yds SE of the dam and along that northern bank just east of said hump just up in that cove. But it is always working...i.e... Trolling motor down going back and forth repeatedly ad nauseum throwing same lure. Seemed like time of day was important too between sand bass and hybrid. Later in the day, near night, would produce the big fighters
