What a strange catch from a yak. Jeff Sheppeard has caught some big fish down under.

He's lucky he didn't get inked. Only time I've run into a cuttlefish (down in Bonaire) it inked our entire diving team.

The end is better. Marlin on a kayak? It looked like it was as long as his kayak. May have to find the video and see how long it took to release it, or how far it pulled him.

Sounded like his reel was working over time earlier in the video. Great Video.

Here is a link to the Marlin he hooked. What a rush it must have been.

I don't get how they catch marlin from the yaks... always thought you had to troll for them faster than you can paddle a yak. I guess live bait maybe? I know a lot of guys do it off Cali and FL, I just wonder how.

I might be moving to San Diego next summer. If so, marlin will DEFINITELY be something I target.

I would say 9 out of 10 times the Marlin is hooked from a boat and the angler then hops into a kayak to fight the fish.
