Has anyone been fishing in Gibbons Creek lately? Caught quick 5 bass on arrival midmorning and then Nada this afternoon. None over 3lbs today. Might have been better earlier but I slept in. Lots of boats on lake early and by noon, almost none. Lake levels and water vegetation has really improved from last couple summers. Water temps getting into 90s. Good to see several boats out fishing with family and kids.

What kind of vegetation is there now? Last time I went a few years ago, didn't see hardly any vegetation.

No, Gibbons is still not a Bastrop or Toledo Bend type vegetation lake. Hydrilla is scarce or gone fully. But compared to this time the last couple of years with fluctuating Gibbons lake levels:
Bulrush Reeds and Cattails have made a comeback after almost fully disappearing.
Lilly Pads fields are more healthy, blooming and more widespread.
American Pond weed is getting established at least at the water intake side.
Water Hyacinths are blooming now and choke the creek arms; and even though they are invasive and a boating nuisance, they hold bass and have the water in parts of the lake looking clearer than in past. ...I saw 8 feet deep (normal is about 1 foot)earlier this year in a creek.
Some traces of Coon tail (horn wart) are in the Pond Weed patches.
Others may have seen more species and/or can correct my naming.
Even saw a cover of coots working plants in the water this Spring...1st I had seen in 10years. They left it appears..

I was doing some bank fishing yesterday (channel cats and bass) but sadly came back empty handed. I started at the boat ramp and worked my way left throughout the day in addition to fishing both sides of the spill way.
For the cats I used chicken livers and punch bait off of a slip sinker rig and santee rig and I used texas rigged worms and rattle traps for the bass.
Any tips or suggestions to improve my results would be greatly appreciated.

Baits and rigs seem good to me. There was some shallow action but for me only early.
Bass though in deeper, slightly cooler shaded waters on outside pad edges might have been impossible to cast to for a bank fisherman.
I don't catfish any more but those boaters too seemed anchored out on deeper humps and points. Even the catters were not boating in the hot water outlet.
With 90 degree + plant heated waters, perhaps nothing on Gibbons stays shallow once the hot sun is up. You might try night, full moon bank fishing there.

I'm thinking of going up in the am for a couple of hours. It's been a long time since I've seen it as full as it was two weeks ago. The fish were up in the newly flooded stuff. It was easy pickings...hope I can fool a couple more tomorrow.

Was there Sunday am til about 11am. Picked up a few early but nothing after 9am. Typical Summer Pattern, water was 90 degrees, bring your tarter sauce..

Went Saturday and caught 12 on the north bank with one being #5. Probably going to go tomorrow and try to get up in the pads. Good luck on sat/sun. The first lot close to the ramp was completely full, 2 lanes, with the lateral lot being about halfway full when we left around 915.
