hi, my names is james and im new to these forums. im currently deployed and all i can think about is that i want to just get away for a weekend of fishing when i get back. the only problem is that i really have no idea where to go. im currently stationed at ft. bliss and have only been there for a short while so i really dont know the area. i looked at the "texas bank fishing map" here on the forums but doesnt seem to be any good spots near me. the closest spots on the bank map seem to be in or near lubbock. so, i guess my question is if you were in el paso and were wanting to get away for a few day of fishing and relaxation where would you go? im not wanting to really spend 2 days driving, but dont mind 6-8 hours each way or heading up into new mexico/ arizona if i had to.

thanks in advance for any suggestions

Welcome, James! As you are aware El Paso is smack in the middle of the desert. Your best fishing bets are one of the many state parks in New Mexico. You will find lots of trout fishing. The mountains in New Mexico are beautiful. Texas has been in a drought for several years. What little water we have out near El Paso is about dried up. Good luck and come home safe!

Go up to Ruidoso and hook into some Trout. The best eating fish there is IMHO and you will be surrounded by a lush forest and the weather is always cool there.

Thank you for serving, I salute you
