Not recommended.
Even low cost flylines are not cheap - Use something designed to treat plastic not metal.

Let us hope that the bass do not find the equivalent of the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

WD 40 makes a great floatant for dry flies, and the trout don't seem to mind.

Bill this was my thought process, if it works for the lures, then maybe the line will float better. but, i guess ill have to get some of that 303 stuff.

Ok...as a chemist, I feel a need to chime in here. Fly line treatments are silicone based. Maybe most fly floatant is as well, but I would hope not....silicones don't breakdown well in the environment. WD-40 is formulated as a penetrating lubricant...probably exactly what you would not want to put on your fly line as it could soften it. There's also a good chance it wouldn't make the line more buoyant.
If you want to justify buying a silicone based fly line dressing, look into yarn or wool strike indicators, and you'll have a second use for it.

EXACTLY WD-40 is made from a fish oil extract NOT petroleum! I know a lot of fisherman that use it as both a line conditioner and attractant

WD-40 is made from a fish oil extract NOT petroleum! The fish oil comment is not accurate. Per the MSDS sheet for WD-40 it is petroleum based. Even Snopes commented on it not being made from fish oil. (The fish oil comment is near the bottom of their article on WD-40.) Asbestos/mold/lead abatement people use a lot of heavy duty duct tape and glue to build/hold their containments. If they need to clean up surfaces afterwards most use WD40 to clean the residue. Good solvent. I would not put a solvent on my fly line.

if you ever need to remove residue from stickers/decals on your boat/car/truck WD-40 is the stuff, cleans bicycle/motorcycle chains well too, does not lubricate worth a damn, does not contain fish oil either, but does have 11 secret herbs & spices
