Banks, I don't think so. Boat docks, maybe early in the morning or if they provide shade with brush under them in deep enough water. Screwed without a boat? Yep. You do need some kind of motor boat to get to the best spots this time of year. But tubes, kayaks, bass busters and canoes are also being used to catch fish. They just don't travel as fast. Check out Tubers United. They catch fish. No motor needed. But off the banks, Yes.

I would`nt say screwed you may still be able to catch some around a dock as long as it has some decent depth and some cover but I don`t see any reason to look for them in the shallows with the high water temps.Catfish, yes.Crappie , No! 2cents

Try to find a pond with crappie in it. Typically in ponds, they'll bite shallow all year, but on a lake, you'll have trouble without a boat.

I know of about five locations on three different lakes where you could reach some crappie from the bank this time of year. But I wouldn't know about them if I hadn't spent time on the water from a boat using the electronics.

I caught crappie today from a boat in a spot where I watched a guy walk through the thick brush to reach a path close enough to fish where I was. Too bad he kept walking. But I think he was bass fishing and not concerned about crappie.

I'd use a slip cork with minnows or jigs and start fishing about 12-14' down in 15' of water if I were going to fish those spots from the bank.

Tubers United!!!!! We may be slow, but we get it done!!!!

Motors and fancy (any) electronics are not part of our setup. Not saying we always limit out by any means. But it's not very often that we don't get some for the freezer.

And upkeep is super cheap on a tube! Don't have to register or put $363 in the gas tank to run across the lake. Get a good lake map, you can pretty much get to a spot that's gonna hold crappie.
