I went to college in Belton and spent some time fishing Belton, Stillhouse and the area. The biggest bass and crappie I ever caught was out of the Leon River. 7.5 lb bass and a 3.5 lb crappie. Both within 5 minutes of each other in the same spot. I have pictures somewhere to prove it...

On my way back to Austin from Dallas yesterday I decided to stop for a while and go back to that spot. I took my flyrod down and had some fun. I caught only one good sized bream, but I saw the potential for the fly fishing trip it could be...

Below Belton Dam is the perfect place to start. I remember white bass all in that area. Depending on low generation, it's shallow for a good ways before you'd need a canoe/kayak/tube. You can float all the way to I-35 getting out only once for a low water dam. This dam is just downstream of Charter Oak Drive and below it is the place I caught my fish.

This would be half a perfect weekend. A day trip could be planned to float this river section and the following day (or half day)could be spent below Stillhouse Hollow lake doing the same.

I just may try this soon.

Micah 6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Nice. We are moving to the Belton/Temple area soon and have kayaks and fly rods that need to be used. Thanks!
