I'm thinking of getting this kayak, I've never been kayaking so it would be my first. Do any of you guys have anything you can share with me about this Kayak?

I'm getting it because it's in my price range and I like the fact that it's wide and that it's not too long.

I would be fishing in lakes and resivors, maybe some rivers.I do BASS fishing.

I would really appreciate your help!!!! THANKS!

I'd get a 12' personally. You said it not being long is a good thing - how come? Do you have storage constraints?

Longers boats are typically faster and track straighter. You also have more room for fishing gear, and if you ever camp out of it you will have more room for gear. River camping trips are a blast.

Just some food for thought. The Ascends are good kayaks for the price point.

I might also recommend looking at the Perception Sport Pescador. About the same price, and I personally like them better. I had one that was 12' but they also make a 10' if you're set on that. It was a terrific first boat.

Good luck and let us know what you decide on.

I thought all of the D10s were SINKs, so I don't know much about the D10s layout.

However, I have the Ascend FS12T (12 foot SOT), and I really like it. If I were you I'd think long and hard (and demo if you can) before you buy a 10 foot for the reasons that Aggie mentioned. You'll paddle a lot more and more vigorously on a SINK on lakes and reservoirs. I've heard people suggest the 10 can be better for river fishing, but I haven't seen any rivers I fish where the 12 foot has been a hindrance.

Most of the peole I know who bought a 10 to start quickly grew tired and quit or upgraded to at least a 12 footer. For the price, the 12foot versions aren't much more.

I really like the Ascends I've been in. For the price, they are great.

Thank you!

As far as size goes I would prefer 10 because my hous is not very big, so I'd have to store it outside (something I don't want to do) But if you say 12' is better then, I'm gonna have to trust you guys!! lol

I really don't know anything about kayaks, so I'm gonna make my decision with what you guys are telling me, I'm Gonna look into it and wheneevr I make the buy. I will let you guy know and post some pics fter it's rigged

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

I bought one as a back-up/spare for buddies and relatives because of the price. It is really stable, but a little slow. For me, I prefer a 12+.

How important is speed? I really don't know if I care about it as much, or does it have to do more with getting from point A to point B as fast as possible and cover more water?

THANKS!

only minus i see is that the stock seat slides around.
so, upgrading the seat looks like a eventual must.

Have you been on one of these? I read that they are very steady, that you can even stand on it... Not that I'm gonna be standing, just saying...lol

One of the benefits of speed is that it also equates to effeciency or ease of paddling, that is, all things being equal you would have to work harder to paddle a slower kayak than you would a faster one.
