In clear water it's had to beat a good soft jerk bait like a Tiki stick fished weightless. In the clear water I fish you get to see almost every fish hit. We had an 8.9 and a 7.8 and several others in the 4.5 to 5.5 range last week on them around grass.

I fish them weight less and you have to have a lot of pationts with them they sink fairly slow but that is what it takes to get the big bite let it sink all the way down. Give it one subtle twitch and let it fall back down on a slack line. I am using a fast action rod it really help the bait obtain a more eratic action. They have to be rigged perfectly strait as well. If you just want numbers you can rip them very fast right under the surface and they will get crushed hope this helps.
