Hello all, this is Bigflyguy newbie to the forums just sharing my Father's Day fishing trip.
Started out sun morn early at packery on the backside throwing my favorite crab pattern on my 8wt TFO TiCr X rod and orvis hydrosIV reel, rio redfish line. Had to throw in my gear. Anyways, saw a few reds just cruising and didn't look hungry. Fished for another 30 min with no luck and decided to move. Then went to the backside of mustang island to try my luck there and noticed dirty water right off the bat. Switched to a chartreuse and white clouser and got a hook up almost instantly but spit the hook. Prolly didn't set the hook good....newbie lol waded along the sandbar trying to find clearer water and did, throwing into the first sand pocket I saw and hooked up on my 2nd cast. Red for sure as my line started peeling off like crazy and tried to clear my line best I could noob style haha and got him on the reel with no snags! The fight continues for just a few more seconds and he found himself in some thick grass. Walked closer to spook him out so not to break my line, and again another spit. No fish today on my first ever fly fishing trip and have never had so much fun fishing before ever. Fly fishing is my new love and can't wait to hit the water again.
