 Lavon Dam area or the west fork of the lake for sunday?

My dad is coming in from Costa Rica (he recently moved there) and I have a friend from Lake Lewisville area coming up with kayaks. I know the rocks on the dam may be holding some little channels but I'd like to get into some blues if at all possible. Since we will be on kayaks I would rather stay off the main lake. Any tips or advise will be appreciated. Also where are the shad on Lavon. Every time I go I can't get but 5 or 6 threadfins. I just need some help I guess.....haha maybe a guide!

I had no luck last night at the dam. I caught some threadfins at lavonia park ramp, no gizzards though.
