Pantherophis obsoletus obsoletus, aka black rat snake. It's actually the same species as our Texas rat snake, Pantherophis obsoletus lindheimeri. They differ morphologically region to region and are assigned to different subspecies, which is a concept I disagree with.
Rat snakes are excellent climbers and use small undulations to vertically move within tight spaces, such as cracks. When stretched across flat surfaces these undulations appear odd as depicted in your photo.

Texas has four venomous snakes that you should look up the see want they look like. The various types to rattle snakes, the water moccasin.(commonly confused with water snakes), the copperhead. (Commonly confused with the rat snakes) and our Pretty coral snake which looks nothing like the other pit vipers mentioned above, I hope experts will contribute if I missed any or add pictures. We also have a small spider called the Black Widow that can inflict some damage to you. and another spider call a "brown recluse" that can be very painful and leave ugly scars. Education makes the outdoors more enjoyable.
Hope I have helped more than hurt. Cool picture. Sorry so long.

May the Good Lord bless you with a bend in your rod.

It is correctly a Texas Rat Snake, commonly called a chicken snake. They are good to have around a rat/mouse infested barns but they are death on eggs if you raise chickens....

Venomous* poisonous is where you eat it and that's how the deadly substance gets into your body. Venomous is where the substance enters your body through a bite or puncture of the skin

Sorry that's just a pet peeve I have. That's not the dictionary definition, that's just what I've heard from animal experts

An onion can make people cry but theres never been a vegetable that can make people laugh.

If you get thrown from a horse, you have to get up and get back on, unless you landed on a cactus; then you have to roll around and scream in pain.

Sorry don't get it done dude

It's better to be a has been than a never was

why would someone kill it? and why do some folks on here assume its a big snake? it could be one ft long for all we know. and the diameter of a #2 pencil.

Keep em tight!

It's no giant, but isn't small either. You can see grass in the background.
