Check the used stuff on cl and here. I picked up and old town caspian which is a ocean kayak scrambler for $500 with a paddle life jacket seat and a few extras. Was only used twice.its a nice little starter and perfect for the wife and kids. Its only 9 ft and when you paddling it tracks like a snake. My 13 ft malibu x tracks like and arrow. Longer kayak track straighter and ride better. Scrub through the used stuff theres so.e good deals out there.

MALIBUTEE X-13.
