im going to help my brother and his friend do some management on a rock quarry this weekend, and i have been wanting to learn how to fish a drop shot so i figured what better time than this...

from doing a search ive figured out what line im going to use, im going to get some of the vmc hooks that are on the swivel, i guess my biggest question is the weights and worms i should use ( i was thinking roboworm ).....if you guys have any other suggestions for me thatd be great

Zoom Fry is good. Zoom weenie worm is also good.
If that water is as clear as most rock quarries I have been in that hook setup may be a visual problem. I useally make a drop line off of a swivel, then the hook about 10 inches below that and the weight on the bottom. You will be more successful with a dropshot out of a boat. Most of the fish I catch are prety close to vertical on the dropshot unless I am throwing a sinko to bedding fish in 2 to 3 foot of water.
They seem to just follow it until the bait is as far off the bottom as possible then the bite takes place. Usually that is very close to the boat which is almost verticle.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

Any style of the straight tailed worms work good. As for the weights I have tried the "high dollar" tungsten weights and loose too many to justify the cost. So I just use the regular Bass Sinkers with the small brass loop/swivel. Another great bait is any of the Fluke style baits. Different sizes to match the bait fish. I have used the small ones on the smaller hooks and the regular Super Flukes with a size 2 hook. (I have caught them up to 9 lbs on a regular fluke on Rayburn.) Just nose hook them and fish them vertically. If you are going to "cast and drag" the rig then you might want to consider going with a light wire texas rig hook so you won't hang it up so much. Also, if you are going light and finesse style the small Yamamoto Shad Shape worm is "dyn-o-mite"!
Another small tip: You can also use a shakey head or small jig/jig head on the bottom instead of a weight. Gives you 2 baits with different styles for the fish to choose from. But, if you are fishing a tournament check the rules to see if you can use multiple baits.

6 inch leader is a good start, I would say the best all around worm is a zoom finesse worm in wat/red.

I wacky drop shot senkos quite a bit these days. When I rig them normally, I use either a zoom trick worm, zoom finesse worm or robo anything.

thanks guys, that helps me a lot....i really like the idea of a jig head on the bottom to have 2 baits, and i really like the idea of throwing wacky (its my favorite way to fish nowadays) and from the research ive gathered it really seems like the majority of people like zoom finesse worms and roboworms

are there any baits i should stay away from?

Keeping a fairly tight line is important. Also even though I catch myself doing it you dont have to jig or move it too much. Just let it sit there a while on a tight line and wait for a little tap tap. No need to cross their eyes. Just a quick snap.

I caught 13.1 Lb LGM last year on NET BAIT finnesse worm but I use any worm, Bigger worm Bigger hook and weight. To start Use 4.75 finnese worm and 1/4 oz weight Tungstien if you can afford it if your lake is full of stumps 10 lb Flourocarbon line if clear something smaller. You can try 10lb Braid and 3-6 ft 10 lb flourocarbon leader tie together with Crazy Alberto if you don't now it,you can find it on You tube "great Knot." Sometimes bite is kinda of light or line just gets heavy. Hook sets are free when in doubt rip the lips.Have fun and don't over work the bait.
