I have an extra kvd tour cranking rod. was wondering if the 7'10" rod would be good for this a Carolina rig?

It will work and should have a good sweeping action for setting the hook. I could drag all day with that rod. The length helps to keep it out away from the boat and getting the line in the big motor prop. while dragging.

I say anything over a 7' will work, longer the better.

awesome! I was just worried about being to light, like you said good sweeping action. but when I get home in a couple weeks I am going to give it a try. thanks guys. I bought a revo inshore, on a abu Garcia villain rod 6'9" (broke the tip off bouncing around in the truck on the rig) I kinda want to use it for flipping rod but need a tip put on. can anyone help me out with that?

I really don't lie using short rods for flipping but I have it, might as well use it. and the revo inshore is a awesome reel

I would never use this rod for a c-rig. like u said it is to light ur hook set ratio on long cast will not be as good as if u had a long rod with back bone and slower tip.

You can use Braid as your main line with a Mono leader. The braid will help compensate for the more limber tip. The braid will also help with More sensitivity. The longer rod will work better for the sweeping hook set too.

ok that sounds good I like the rod. super light paired up with a quantum smoke 5.4 cranking reel so just got a couple bps reels going to use one for the c-rig. might not be the best choice but I got it so im going to use it. I didn't think that quantum made such good rods. abu Garcia and quantum have came a long way with their rods in the last few years. braid/ mono leader? will the mono stretch? why would you use mono over fluorocarbon?

bass pro, academy, cabelas and probably gander mt. all sell tip replacements. put it on with quick dry epoxy, it will only take a drop or 2. I cover tip replacements with a wrap embedded in epoxy too for protection and added durability.
