I am going to be in Corpus Christi this weekend and will be able to fish Friday night and Saturday morning, I am taking my little brother and I was wondering if red dot pier was a good spot and if so is my ordinary bass fishing set-up good enough to take and what kind of bait do i need to use. I would like to bring some nice fish back to Amarillo, to cook on the grill. Any help would be awesome and thank you!

I've heard Red Dot is good for sand trout, but I've never fished there myself. I'm thinking of heading down there this weekend as well, but I usually end up around JFK causeway (pier or wading) or along Packery channel out to the jetties. Haven't had luck with any keepers the last couple times, but have always caught something so its not boring....

your bass gear should be fine - just give a good cleaning to clean out the salt water when you're done. Most folks recommend live shrimp under a bobber. You can also try dead shrimp on the bottom.
good luck

Me and a couple of guys from work have planned a trip to Corpus on the 20th -24th of June. We are planning on going out to the rigs to bottom fish for Snappers. Does anyone have any advice for us. I have fished open water many times but never in the gulf. Mostly FLA and Cali. All those trips were paid trips. This time we are taking my buddy's boat and none of us have fished the rigs. So any tips would be grealty appreciated. Thanks Fella's!

I would recommend going to a local fishing shop by my office. I am bringing my rods in and taking them over to get checked out for the trip. They are very knowledgable and have well priced rods/reels. I got a feeling we might work at the same GDT office...

Well, we went to red dot and the guy said they werent catching anything, so we went to bob hall pier last night and my little brother caught the biggest fish he ever has. He caught about a 15 pound black drum

I was out there Saturday. lots of baitfish, bird activity, but still got skunked.

There were a couple reds caught at the end of the jetties by early afternoon, but thats all I saw....

I'm about ready to give up on packery
