Im gonna be heading to Joe Pool either this weekend or the next. Never been there before and was just curious as to how the bucketmouths are biting over there and if there are any hazards I should be aware of? May take a buddy of mine who has never really fished much and I want him to catch some good ones and just have a good day on the water! Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I haven't been in a couple of weeks, but last time I was there the black & white bass were in the grass. Start looking for the grass around the swim area by Lynn Creek Park and troll towards the dam. JP can be a tough lake...it's hit or miss. Also, I would recommend launching at sunrise & be off the water by noon to avoid the pleasure boaters.

Was out there Sunday for about 3 hours (1600-1900) and today for about 4 hours (1400-1800) and didn't have much luck

Caught 2 sandies on Sunday and today i caught 3 sandies and a LMB.

All the sandies were caught on shiny Rooster Tails (both red and white tails). All my fishing was trolling north and south on the Cedar Hill side of the lake in my kayak, running 2 poles at a time. The LMB was caught on a beetlespin.

No luck with rattletraps, crankbaits (multiple colors tried), torpedo, or spinnerbait

Hint -Find the Hydrilla and they will come.! 'Rip a rattletrap thru it fast hold your rod tip high to keep it up shallow. There is lots of hydrilla in state park area. Fished tourney there Sunday did not catch a fish until I found the grass. Also caught a few on spinner baits.

Skunked at joe pool today.

Spent 6 hours and never even got a hit. Tried weightless worms, shad, crankbait, 5 different rattletrap colors, jigs, beetlespins, and rooster tails. Hit rocks on the damn, hydrilla, and grassy coves.

I was fishing along the NE edge of the lake, in the coves and across the damn.

Even found a 50 foot drop off and tried a slab there for a bit... nothing

Then the douchebaggery started with the wakeboard boats (and some bass boats) so i called it.

Hopefully they hit better next time. May move back down to the more southern state park ramp and go south from there, next time

You have to learn the lake. Lots of good fish in Pool. You can put 20- 25 fish in the boat in a day.

Fished from 1100 to 1500 today and caught 3 LMB that were all ~8"

All bites i got today were on the submerged brushpile just outside of the north ramp in cedar hill state park. The top of the brush pile ranged from 20ft to 10ft, and the wind made it hard to keep my yak over the top of it.

Was worried that i would drop my anchor and it would get stuck.

Overall, still haven't found me a honey hole yet.

All 3 were caught on a yellow and blue crappie jig. yellow glitter worms had no luck, and lost the only slab i brought (chartreuse with a black + chartreuse jig 18" above) after 20 minutes (no bites prior to losing it)

Really just trying to get on the sandies but haven't been able to find them

Been fishing Pool for almost 10 years 1 to 2 times a week and never put those kinds of numbers in. Haven't known anyone else to do so either.

Been fishing Joe Pool for over 20 years. I really like Joe Pool, and yes there's lots of quality fish in the lake. Went out Thursday morning from 6-11 and caught 12, our biggest was about 5 LBS, caught some more in the grass when the sun came up later in the morning. We used flukes and drop shots. Find the grass and you'll find the fish

Bass: Mostly dinks on the shorelines unless you can find a steep drop off. Grass or hydrilla are best going into the hot months. There are submerged brush piles on lake maps that hold good fish. Also, since Pool is a muddy bottom and low visibility, some of your big guys will key in on stumps near ambush points. Look for those.

Sand/White Bass: Look for underwater humps and drop a 1/2 to 3/4 ounce silver slab. Cast out, let it hit bottom, reel up quick 5-6 times, let drop again, repeat. These guys are weird on Joe Pool in that at times you can hit your limits quick and other times you get skunked.

There are lots of crappie in that lake too but I'm not a crappie guy so don't ask me.
