I am about 6'2" and weight about 220-230 depending on if it is summer or winter haha

I really want to get into kayaking and fishing out of one this summer. I think a 12-15 footer would be the best general length for me, but what about width?

Also I plan on fishing some ponds, but would like to take the kayak out onto lakes like Lake Alan Henry (Fishing the river end) and White River (which is less than 400 acres now) and alan henry is a pretty narrow lake as far as lakes go.

12ft should be just fine for an all around kayak. Im 6'3" 245 and fish out of a 10ft with no issues. Just personal prefernce really. And for the record I would like to upgrade out of my 10' and get into something bigger with more storage.

What's your budget?

Do you have a way to transport/store longer kayaks?

12-15' cover about 85% of the sit on top kayak market. The amount of stability you're looking for in a kayak will determine width (typically), so if you want to be able to stand and fish you're going to need a little wider kayak.

Listen to Nuemie he knows a ton. In my opinion length is gonna depend on the yak. You couldn't get me in anything shorter than 14ft if its a redfish but Im fine in a ride 115 or a Cuba 12. And do you want to stand and fish? Do you value speed or agility more? Do you have a way to haul or store large boats? What's your price range? The way i see it and i may very will be wrong but boats on the lower end of the price range should be longer for a heftier guy simply because of weight limits.

I am familiar with both of those lakes. If your looking to get across the larger part of the lakes and do it before getting run over by drunk Tech kids then you need to get a longer yak. Not always the case but typically the longer the faster. If you looking for stability then you need to go with Malibu in my opinion. You can easily get in a shorter kayak but your going to give up on some speed and tracking ability. If you want the best then you have to pay the $$$. If you buy at a chain retailer then your going to get what you pay for. You gotta give up a little if you dont want to pay a lot.

Take a look at the stealth series of Malibu. Those will hold you with ease and you can stand on them. They have tons of storage and a live well built in just in front of the seat so you can get to it with ease. PM me if you can't find one and I can get you set up.

Thanks for the help guys! As of now I am just generally looking for models and sizes to fit me. I am working this summer, so money will come eventually! Thank you!
