I am going to Lake Lavon tomorrow morning looking for some catfish. I'm not to sure where they will be but I was thinking of putting in somewhere around bratonia. I might have to double check that but im pretty sure thats where. I was thinking of heading north up one of the fingers towards some more shallow water and into the trees. Let me know if anyone want to join for a half day paddle or if there is a better spot on the lake for me to go.

If your going for channels put in at Mallard and paddle towards the bridge(train) not hyw78 fish the rocks 3ft under the bobber and you should limit out. They are in the rocks doing their thing they average 1 to 3 lbs good luck.

I might be going again on Sunday depending on how sunburned I get tomorrow. I haven't been out on Lavon in awhile so I gotta find my spots again. I'm a little rusty.

Bratonia is not a bad area for blues. If you look at Bing maps, and select the aerial view, you will see a couple of old dikes that run out from Bratonia. The images they use for Bing maps is from a very low water period for local lakes. Of course, if you use Google Earth, you can select the imagery from various years and see the same thing. This may be old news to you, but it useful in this case for fishing around that particular area.

I've caught a lot of fish in the sticks along that structure. You don't want to flip in there though, because I've broke off a ton of hooks there too! Better to fish your baits close to the boat, cause theres a lot to hang you up there. I learned that eventually..

Good catch, I forgot about the park closures. One could launch at the mile long bridge there...

I've never tried it along that RR bridge, will have to give it a go...

Well I ended up going to brockdale park. I knew from last year I had got some decent fish from that area and gave it a go. The boat ramp was closed but there were a few cars parked at the trinity trail parking lot. I went ahead and took the yak all the way down the road and launched. It was a perfect day out there day. I wish I had caught more fish but I did get a few channels and a drum. All in all it was a good day except for that horribly long haul down to the water with all that gear.

Thanks for all the other tips on places to go. Can you still go to the closed parks and access the water from there? Im always a little weary about crossing a closed gate but there are always plenty of people and you can always get there from another spot and get to it from the water. Any thoughts about that?

Its all a great crappie spawn area, I like to put 3 crappie poles out the front of my kayak, kinda like spider rigging, and just super slow paddle in 4feet of water, catchy limit in an hour
