I've only had mine for 7 months, but I've probly used it a lot more. I've had one that was broken straight out of the box would not even reel. then the one I have now the drag is terrible. complete opposite of smooth and steady and has almost no adjustability. also have had problems with the spool locking up and not turning on retrieve, or on a fish, and sometimes it screams at me when I cast it also my buddy who bought his at the same time had his level wind go out before 6 months. Chinese Junk comparable to the BCX in my opinion.

Saweet catches! Don't misunderstand...I'm not doging abus...they are fine reels. I have 7 total from 5000-7000. Just wondering if there is a better reel for the job. You can catch anything that swims with a penn senator but there are far better reels made. I may try a shimano, I used to have an avet sx but didn't like it. I do love my diawa saltists, mabey switch to the 20. My fishing is from a kayak so capacity isn't too critical.

I own and 11 ambassador reels. C3's, C4's, 7000, series and a 10000 series. I can cast one reel just as good as another with the execption of the 10000 series. It takes realy paying close attention to get it way out there without backlashing it. 7000 series pro rockets are my favorite out of all my reals. Need to put the 7000 series reels on a 7.5 foot fairly stiff rod in order to give the rod and reel a good well balanced feel to it. Imho

Well I use mine for sure, bought them when I started high school and used them 3-4 days a week during the summers catching reds to 25 pounds, several trips to the surf and jetties over the years, and a lot of catfishing with blues to 50 lbs. I use them for sure, maybe not as hard as a guide, but they have been trouble free for about 10 years. Drag is smooth as glass and they cast great for a big reel and love them for fighting fish.

You didn't by chance by remanufactured ones did you?

Not much that my 6500C4 and 6500UC can't handle with 80lb power pro. I've had the reels for ~10 years and the only things that have been replaced is the little Y piece that goes through the worm gear that controls the levelwind.

#80?!?! Seems a little much no? I don't want to hook a fish and rip out or break my spool or entire reel. I guess the solid frame reels are peeking my intrest.

Big fish are no problem for Abu 5000's and 25lb string
"Better" is very highly subjective . . . .I see alot of folks with 100lb fish gear that have never seen the other side of 25lb fish
Keep most any reel cleaned and properly lubed and it will perform
well within subjectivity:)
