We ended up having a great trip! Thanks everyone for all the recommendations.

We decided to go to the Little Red and had a blast! The area was really pretty. We ended up booking a guide for the first day we were there so we could get some advice on how to fish the next few days and hopefully get on some good fish. Boy did we ever!

We went with Greg Seaton out of Heber Springs. I cannot say enough good about him. If anyone is ever looking for a guide in that area definitely give him a shot. He took us out on his river boat and we were in the fish all day. We never got anything too big but it was still a blast. We caught mainly rainbows with 1 or 2 browns as well. Fishing with San Juan worms and sow bugs. The biggest fish was probably around 15 inches with the majority of them being around 12 inches. There were 3 of us on the boat and I would say we caught around 50 fish, with only 2 of us fishing at a time. It was a blast and as I said, Greg was a fantastic guide.

After the trip he gave us advice on where to go and even gave us some of his own hand tied flies to use the next day. He also stopped by his house to show us around and checked the generation schedule for us.

The way it normally goes with us fishing is after we leave the guide, the fish seem to disappear. Not this time though. We got lucky with the generators being off and could wade the river and got into them again. Both the next 2 days we caught several fish a piece on sow bugs and midges.

Sorry for no pictures, Greg took plenty for us and is going to send us a cd but I do not have it yet.

Overall it was a great trip and I look forward to going back again soon. The numbers of fish in the Little Red is pretty amazing and I would definitely recommend every fly fisherman give it a go someday. Thanks again for all the advice and if anyone has any questions about our trip pleace feel free to ask!

I used to fish the Little Red before it was a trout stream. It was a great brim, bass, and catfish river. My uncle had a cabin where the white and the little red ran together; some great fishing. Now, every time I go theyre generating!!!-p-

My mother grew up about a mile as the crow flies from the Little Red. Her dad, my grandpa, fed eight kids through the depression partly on what he could catch out of the river. He was well known locally for his ability to catch big catfish, he used nets and "hogging" to catch them.

I used to fish in the same places when I was a teenager, of course it was trout water by then. We fished where a fair sized creek dumped into the river and I remember catching, bass, walleye, buffalo, and of course rainbow trout.

If you are fishing the Little Red and want to know the status of the generators you can call this number for a recorded update:

(501) 362-5150

I grew up there and love returning to fish it when I can. Beautiful river and great fishing!

Pearow, if you fished the river before it was a trout stream then you must be an old codger like me. LOL Actually there is still some great catfishing down in the Georgetown area where the two rivers intersect. That is far enough downstream that it is still a warm water river there, with some great catfishing. There was a little shack of a catfish resturatnt there up until a year ago and people drove for miles to eat those delicious river catfish. Our loss!
BTW, I was born and raised in Searcy.

Here's the site to see the Generation Schedules for all of those tailwaters...
http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx

What amazes me about the Little Red is the self sustaining brown trout population. I'll be back up there in November for a few days.
