Heading back to Rockport the 14th. If anybody wants to share info that week let me know, I haven't been down for a month. Really hoping for more trout info as we have been really lucky with reds. Trying to stay close to Estes flats with newbies on board who don't stay out all day.

Good Luck.
Reef action for trout is starting to heat up as the water temps heat up and the trout seek cooler temps and a quick feed.

Just got back we had a 4 man limit of specks by 9:30, at first light we smoked them for 45 minutes. Caught all of ours on free lined crokers.

I was down a coulpe weeks ago and caught a few trout and red fish. 3 of the trout I cleaned had eggs. I would expect they would be in full spawn right now. You may want to stay away from Shrim as the bait steelers are in full force. Good Luck

Taylor, I am not sure. When trout spawn, do they lay thier eggs up shallow in the grass or out in little cuts? Thanks

Well, kinda weak start. Got up late, moving really slow and didn't really get out until 08:30. Some of our people didn't get in till 02:00. Got three reds on Estes flats but everyone wanted to go to the beach (Lord help me, not to fish). So I did ok on reds again but didn't even try for trout.

I've never tried the reefs. I'm coming from the Palm Harbor/Bahia Bay area and that big fetch down from Mud makes me nervous in my 17' Logic. How do you keep from ripping off your lower unit first time?

Fishing stunk for me. I went out in St Charles bay, fished the marshes, creeks. Nothing but a few ladyfish. Lost one fish at the boat that I didnt get a look at. Also went to Rattlesnake Pt in Copano, nothing. Second day went further up into St Charles, lots of bait and some blow ups but only hooked into lady fish. Never saw a red all weekend. Loved fishign the area but pretty bummed I didnt find reds.

We have spent 15 hours in our kayaks. Three days, one of those with a guide, and one redfish to show for it. That is a lot of work for one fish. Conditions have obviously been less than ideal. So much for catching fish on vacation, but I did have two dolphins escort me home on my kayak. That was kind of cool.

Got one keeper, one 18" red yesterday and as for trout, amazingly, zero. Going to try some new things today. Bite so slow in the AM decided to sleep in today. All the reds have been afternoon.

Crazy thing though. Yesterday morning I was popping a cork with a new penny gulp under it when the water exploded and my drag started screaming. I saw two fins side by side and figured I had a shark on. I had to start the boat and follow it to keep from getting spooled. Turned out to be a big Cow nosed ray. Never seen one on the flats before.

We have been here for a week, and I can say we had no problem finding tailing redfish. Getting them to bite on the other hand is another story. I always thought of the musky as the fish of a thousand casts. I have now changed my mind. These things flat out would not bite, even with our guide. We were wiggling stuff right in front of their nose. We landed only one redfish that we saw.
We did much better just throwing live finger mullet next to the grass and waiting for something to pull during low tide. We caught fish during high tide with live bait, but low tide seemed better for concentrating the fish we were on. Caught several trout and redfish that way. Also the lovely hardheads and a sting ray. Live bait was way more productive than artificals for us.
