Yesterday at fork I was throwing a crank and hung a really nice one. Got her to the boat because I figured my dad had the net ready. I was wrong, he was trying to get the net and the tacklebox was on top of it. She started walking on her tail trying to throw it... And she did right when my dad went for her with a net. My dad told me it was 9lbs easy, made me sick just to think that one more second and we would have landed her.

is it the crankbaits fault or your own for not having the net ready?

I never said it was a crank issue But I know if it was a soft plastic she wouldn't had come off. We always have the net out But it was on our way back to the ramp I stopped and fished a point and we had already put the net up.

It's better to have hooked and fought one, only to lose it, then not to have been bit at all.

It could be worse...not sure how but it could be! You'll get over it and be back for more. Fishing is like that!

Basically what I always say. Better to have hooked and lost than to never have hooked at all..

I'm a plastics fisherman. I've been fishing all my life. I know they can and will throw a worm hook. I've lost many 10+ on soft plastics. But I'll tell you right now, there's a bigger chance for them to throw a treble hook over a worm hook.

Yeah, the crank bait could have flown back and stuck one of YOU. That's the double whammy.
