The water on Conroe is starting to warm up. I suspect the thermocline is starting to set in. Would it be prudent to stop fishing on the bottom in 40+ foot of water and fish cutbait under a slip cork at about 20 feet? Do blues suspend when oxygen is in short supply in deeper water?

I have caught fish below the thermocline all the time, long as its not on setlines it doesn't hurt. That said fishing may be better above it.

I read (been some years back) an article from one who fished R-n-R regularly on lakes when the thermocline was active fully. He explained that he would use goldfish & if the depth was 40', he would set it at about 20'. He explained the big Blues suspend about mid range (borderline of thermocline).

Another option to look at once the
thermocline sets in is fishing areas
of the lake that are less than 20ft
deep. I prefer fishing flats in 10-15ft
with adjacent creek channels and
timber and also shallower in 4-6ft
with simular surroundings. Primarily
fishing at nights and early mornings.

I like to fish on bottom on the shallower side of where the themoc line and the bottom meet. I've tried fishing in the limnetic zone with my baits suspended above the thermoc line but I don't ever recall doing good there when I was being disappointed in the literal zone also.
