I headed over to Benbrook late this morning and spent about 5 hours fishing. The lake is just over 2 feet low, and has been at that level for a few days. The upper lake was a bit dingy, probably more from the wind than rain. The lake is now a little higher than I like it this time of year. A lot of my favorite trees disappear when the lake is less than 2 1/2 to 3 feet low.

The north wind blew harder than what was forecast (big surprise there, huh), and I was fighting whitecaps until the last hour or so, when it let up a bit. Still, knowing the kind of heat that's coming soon, I would have to call today a beautiful day to be on the water.

It was a kind of tough bite, just like happens a lot for me at Benbrook, but I kept picking up a fish here and there, and ended up with 10 keepers. 2 were just 11 inchers, but the rest were all nice fish. My wife had told me that tonight's dinner menu included fish if I brought some home, so I kept 6.

I never found a magic spot today. I guess you could say I found the fish to be scattered. All were caught on timber, 8 to 10 feet deep, in 15 to 20 feet of water, on my 1/8 oz Benbrook Timber Jig, with a 1 1/2 inch firecracker tube.

Been reading your reports for awhile now, went out yesterday armed with my jigs and crappie poles. Fished timber in depth ranges you mentioned and caught a whitebass, blackbass, perch, and 2 bar fish. No Crappie! I would have loved for 10 keepers. Starving for some fresh filets.

Just trying to remember to turn my lights off backing down the ramp!

We all have tough days on Benbrook. Keep working that timber.

Sorry I missed you, Pat. Does this mean your lower unit is fixed?
