Does this motor have idle jets , or idle mixture screws ?
How do you clean idle circuits in carbs ?

Trying to trouble shoot the coughing and sneezing on my motor when idling. ..

get 5 gals of gas and 2 cans of seafoam. buy a new set of plugs.

run the gas/seafoam (assuming you have oil injection) for about 10 mins on the muffs. shut off and let it sit for about 2 hrs, go repeat. after it sets the second time go to the lake and run the snot out of it. come back and change plugs as your old ones will likely be fouled some now.
seafoam will clean the carbs great, decarb the engine and should make it idle much better if its just dirty carbs. if it still coughs n spits you need to check timing and spark.

how many gals of gas in it now?

do you add oil to the gas or to a tank then the engine mixes it?
use the same champion plugs that are in it now. they should be QL78yc gapped at .030

decarbing the engine is nothing more than cleaning the cylinders and getting all the carbon build up blown out, this will help it run better.

you do not need to drain the gas in it now, run it till you are down to about 5 gals and then add seafoam. if you have less than 15 gals in now you could also add another can of seafoam, it will not hurt a thing, just run that mix till almost empty.

The sea foam does te decarb it cleans the carbon from the cylinders for you that's why u need new plugs afterwards. It will cut all the carbon out of cylinders as well as help clean slightly dirty carbs but if carbs are real bad they need to be torn apart and properly cleaned.

Check all the little return lines that go from the block to the intake. If one is off or broke it will cause the same problem.

I am not going to disagree with anyone because im sure many of you have been doing this longer than i have. But fyi i have seen several older outboards with major problems all had to be re built. I believe this is due to running sea foam in the gas. The sea foam breaks down trash in the tank and lines and sends it to the carb. Causing the carb to run lean not allowing oil to the cylinder. Im not very familiar with vro units or oil injection yet but it may not be a problem on them because i believe the oil does not even go through the carb? Correct me if im wrong. Btw ethanol doesnt help a damn thing either!

Thanks for correcting me. However i still stand behind my words on if trash is broke loose and sent to the carb than it can clog up jets and cause a cylinder to run lean and even dry.
