After several months of debating to buy a new boat I decided to put the money else where and settle on a paid for rig ! Did some trading with a friend on this one, needs some work. It's a 1991 Avenger with a 150 Johnson. Boat is solid , motor needs a few minor things. I had the starter fixed today. This is my first one to restore so I need some help and advice! All suggestions are welcome ! List of things to do are... - Wet Sand and Polish Top Side - Re-build controller - Re-Cover Seats - Re-Carpet - New decals - Paint Trailer - New interior lighting - Upgrade trolling motor - New Graphs - Extend Front deck back to the console - Paint the motor ( Black ) Stripped all the carpet today this is after I washed it down real good... Like I said, I have my work cut out for me ! Any tips are greatly appreciated ! I'll post the progress as it happens . Thanks !

Lots of good info on boat restoration on Bass Boat Central. Looks like your off to a good start already. I always liked the GT 150 motors. They were also offered in charcoal color if you we're wanting a color change that still looked original.

Looks like it might be beyond wet sanding.

I would replace the hatches and fish like hell.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

spray the top cap with bed liner and be done with it, that will never shine again.

Are you using extra cut compound? Or just a polishing compound? If you wet sand with 600 followed by 1500 and then 3000 grit then use 3m extra cut compound and then go back over it with the grey machine polish you will get a great finish make sure you use a quality wax/sealer like protek when your finished.
Looks like you have a good start on your restoration

I do Detailing on the side and just finished one that was more far gone that, some yahoo got it sprayed with auto clear and it was peeling along with oxidation that turned black into grey. it also came out to a show room shine. I always recomend to wipe the top cap down with a quality spray wax every time you come off the water regardless of where it is stored. This keeps the oxidation at bay and beeds the water off. It looks really good but it looks like you still have a little hazing. Hit it with 1000 wet sand paper by hand. Fold the paper in thirds and dip it in water and you know when you are doing it right when the water turns a white color. Dry it with a towel before it dries. when you are buffing dont use more that a quarter size amount of wax for a three foot area. with the buffer off move it around and dont apply more wax until all the haze is gone. This will almost elemanate the wild flinging of wax and will also give you a better result.
