Hello All,
My gfriend & I were in a restaraunt the other day & there was a striper on the wall & she made the comment that she would like to catch one of "those" fish. We have gone out to Lake Waco & I know where the white bass run the shad in the mornings so we have been catching fish. I told her we would have to go to Lake Whitney, we live on Wortham Bend in China Spring, bc it is the closest lake with stripers. I have never fished Lake Whitney & only fished for stripers on Buchannon. I know how to fish them both lures & live bait, just not much experience at it. I figure trolling would be the easiest, at least the most fun, imo.
Anyone have any pointers/suggestions of fishing the stripers on Whitney? My Dad & I talked about it today, he is going to show me where he has caught some in the past, but that has been years ago. I know Whitney has had algae problems in the recent past, but dont know if it has affected the stripers or not. I saw a post on here last week where a guy was asking about the catfishing & others chimed in & said the fish are still there, just hafta know where to look. Are the stripers still there too?
Thanks for any suggestions given!!

Stripers are still there. Guides can put you on them. I have not figured them out yet. I hope someone responds that knows, so I can try too.

You might start around the state park, Towash creek and work your way towards the Island(if is still is one). Basicaly this area: http://goo.gl/maps/nMY5q I used to have good luck with live bait or trolling Hell-pets and downriggers in that area. Might even luck out and find a few humps with fish feeding and stacked up. Look for them surfacing early in the morning. Might keep a top water bait ready to cast in case they do start schooling in the morning. Good luck let us know how you do.

Mike Acosta or Team Redneck can put you on fish there.

Same question here. I have never fished Whitney, and my wife and I are going camping there next weekend. I have been trying to get my wife into some fish lately, and she has yet to catch a hybrid or striper.
Since we're camping there, I was hoping someone could give me some pointers on where to find some sandies pushing shad in the morning, and where i might be able to find some hybrids or stripers.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
