So I sniped this Penn Defiance 40LW Rod n Reel Combo I found on Walmart.com(I know...) for 79.99. According to everywhere else (BPS for example it was $129.99 for this model) The smaller sizes cost more on the site so I thought that was odd. It sold out quick I had to go to 2 different stores here in SATX to get the last one. I guess they mis-priced it? Seemed like a steal of a deal.

Anyways, I'm still new to the salt game and building up my arsenal so I figured this was another good starter to add to the stable. Wondering what suggestions for line to put on this guy? I was thinking 50lb braid?

Main application would be Port Aransas Surf (yakked out) or Pier for whatever feels like eating it. I presume sharks but not looking at them as prime suspects but it they take it I won't complain. But really just wanted a conventional to go with my Spinning Rods (now to find a baitcaster smile )

Slap some power pro on it and let it rip. If i'm not mistaken it holds like 700yds of 50 and 500 of 60 0r 65 i forget which 1. Just make sure you use a good leader you got a deal because that reel is 90 by itself.

That looks similar to the ones used on my recent deep sea trip. They were using 50# mono. We caught small sharks and king mackerel with them. No one had a line break.
