Hey Gang,

I want to get a gps unit to use while im out fishing, I have researched just enough to realize that I have no idea what I have gotten myself into.

I know I need WAAS so the device will be accurate,
I know Garmin only allows you to use their software,
I know I want a portable hand held
I know I want it to be waterproof
I know I dont want to spend more then $200
I know I dont mind buying used lol,
I know I want something that shows depth charts, direction, distance, mph both current & average
I know I need a way to make and save trip layouts for rivers and a way to add info as well as a way to mark hot spots.

Im thinking about getting the Garmin 60CS with the inland lakes map, it can be had for about $200 and it includes everything I listed as well as the added benefit of showing roads, fishing hot spots, and a fishing calander. The map also gives me most of the larger local lakes around me such as Medina, Canyon, Choke, Brauning and Calaveras. It is also supposed to show rivers and creeks. Not sure what the river lakes like McQueeny will look like. However I have heard horror stories of the garmin software being out dated and not being very accurate. I do understand that accuracy can be a function of the unit.

The Garmin 60CS is a download unit anotherwords it cant use the SD cards. I do some coast fishing and I was wondering if the Garmin 60CX would be a better choice so I can switch Between two cards when Im at the coast or when im inland. I am not familiar with this device and Im not sure it even works like tht if anyone has one and can give me info I appreciate it.

If you can give me input on any of these devices or another that might be better im all ears.

Thanks again,
Alex R.

I've used a GPSMap 78CSx for the last several years. The 60 is ,from what I've seen, more rugged. I prefer my old 78 to my newer Colorado and the newer GPSMap's.

I also believe you should be able to get it for less than $200.

If you have a smart phone just get the navionics app. You will get the contours and GPS. If not I would probably go with a lowrance handheld.

I've got an h20C I'd be willing to part with if interested.
