I understand that most fisherman like to hold information close to the vest. But, I am new to Lake Texoma fishing and I'm hoping to get some guidance on where this lake's "hot zones" are for Stripers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can figure out what lures they bite. I just need to know I'm where the fish are.

I recently moved from the Lake Ray Hubbard area to the Lake Texoma area and I'm looking forward to the change. I know there will be adjustments to me made, just hoping I can shorten the amount of time it takes to really figure Texoma out.

I've went and used the search function. Problem is everything is so spread out and a lot of the information is older and I don;t know if it applies to the current.

Also, if this isn't the sort of question a person asks on a fishing forum I understand and will take this down. Someone just let me know.

Check out some recent posts by the regular posters, there are a lot of experts that will chime in with advice.

It is a very dynamic lake, two week old information can be worthless.

It is also a lake that looks a lot deeper in some areas than it actually is, there are places that go from 60'to 2' in less than 3 boat lengths.

I guess what's so intimidating to me is the size of the lake compared to what I'm used to.

I suppose I could always just follow the boats around. Problem is I'm using lures instead of live bait.

Just go fish Texoma anywhere. I fish there about three times a week. So much so that my freezer is almost full of fish. I'm usually targeting crappie trolling with crankbaits but in addition to the crappie I catch sand bass, Largemouth, Smallmouth, catfish, Drum and lots of stripers. Most of the stripers are smaller than 20 inches but I occasionally catch some of the bigger ones close to 30". Considering that I am fishing with standard size Bandit or KVD cranks,I think you'll do fine with what you have.

A great way to start fishing specifically for stripers is to just tie on a big sinking crakbait like a chrome rattletrap or a shad colored rapala JSR -7 and toss it on the points. In the evening you'll see a lot of top water activity, some of which may be stripers. If you have a fish finder it will be a great help.

i was new to texoma too ( is still am!) and first thing I did was get a map. I read some reports on this forum and compared back to my map. Took notes on depths, structure, etc. I also asked questions on the forum and learned alot. best thing to do is get out there and see whats going on. Good luck!

I usually use a 4" sassy shad on either a 3/4 or 1 ounce head, some times they prefer a smaller profile bait and I use a cocomoe bait on the same head.

Sorry that this seemed to hit your 68 post happy button, the man stated that he was a lure fisherman as opposed to a bait fisherman, I replied with what I have been using and a source for them. There are other lures and other sources, I'm sure with your broad knowledge you will be able to make some sound suggestions.
