I have been fishing since I was a kid and finally the time has come. I got a 12' v hull Jon boat that I have fixed up and got running with a 1982 7.5 Johnson. last week I built a trailer for it and I have been taking it out to joe pool to make sure everything is working correctly when I was fixing the motor and now im ready to fish! so my question is im looking for a lake to take it on where im gonna catch some good fish from a boat. Any ideas?

You got a good 1 man boat but be careful on the big water. Attach you some all weather whistles on your life jackets in case of the worse situation and your covered for a horn. A whistle saved my brothers life in bad situation. We should all have one on every PFD..

I'm sorry Jacob K, but I had to chuckle at that myself. But, I hope you have a blast with your new boat and I bet you find plenty of water to use it in. As a youngster, I grew up in Maine surfishing & rock hopping the coast, when I wasn't terrorizing the trout in the Brooke that ran through my back yard. I've fished from a boat exactly 6 times in my life and that was all ocean. Basically I'm not comfortable at the idea of fishing from a boat, undoubtedly my own fear, as I haven't a clue. Secretly I think I'm scared I'd fall over the side on my first cast. I know I have thought about getting a small John such as you have, typically about the time summer hits. It would be interesting to hear how you transition from bank to boat. It's got to be, at the least, a different way of thinking. A different approach. I just turned 50, but from the banks I always seem to put myself on the bite (ok, not always, but...). But in a boat I've always wondered if I'd be the proverbial fish out of water...
Nooooooo.... (as the big one gets away again)

Water.
lol.. Seriously though, I've always read if you have a boat, the best place to fish is your home lake because it's cheaper on expenses to get there, and you can fish more often resulting in really learning the lake, where the fish are, etc, etc.

hi Jacobk alike me you are looking for a place to put in and cast and float and fish and learn about your boat, me I have a 10' my self so I thought the medina river would be good, you just have to find the right spot or go to reds cove so I am told, good luck and happy fishing.

I have fished joe pool my whole life and only thing ive ever caught was crappie and some really small bass. I have friends that have bigger boats that ive gone with to several different lakes like bob sandlin and such and caught good size fish but the water out there would be pushing it in a jon boat.

Aint nuthin wrong with Joe Pool. I have caught plenty of big bass there, and big numbers too. I like the grass, the water is cleaner there than most of local lakes, probably because of the grass, and i've noticed the water level doesn't fluctuate as much as other lakes. Probably why it has more grass. Also good for the spawn.
