I hope he finds it - the repair at least easily ID's it. I second flyfish's suggestion of using CL and mention reward. A pic would go a long way toward helping someone ID/recall seeing it.
In the interest of learning from experiences, do you know how it came loose from the rack?

Ya im gonna hop on CL here in a bit and get it poseted we have pics of the yak but there all in the water so you cant see the repair in the picture, its a long shot but its all we can do to find it at this point
as far as how it came loose I have no idea we had heavy duty ratchet straps, same as we always use had three of them on there I guess between the wind and the bottom of the kayak being wet it found a way to wiggle loose but that's why im not a fan of rooftop racks *IMO

i use 3 straps as well when rooftopping my kayak. But i go through the grab handles on the front and the back, and then I also have a strap that goes around the middle and is secured inside of the car. Been driving with it when it was super windy recently and it doesnt budge. Did none of the straps y'all used go through any kind of grab handle or anything?

For those who use the typical tiedown, following is something I do on my straps. Instead of just relying on the hook of the tiedown, I use the closed part of the hook and use a HD carbiner so that the strap cannot come loose at this connection. Kayaks flex some, lose tension on straps after being tied down for some time as deformation may take place, even the sun can make a kayak a bit more pliable and cause the tension to be reduced. And with enough reduced tension and a hard bump or hit, the hook end as normally used could come loose and then you lose the tiedown connection completely. At least with this method, the strap will always stay connected to the mounting point and likely continue to provide some amt of tension. And if you ran the strap through something on the kayak (recommended if possible), you still have that securing the kayak. Additionally, I always do a hard tie off to the handles or some other strong connection to the kayak. And obviously tie off to something that the kayak is not already connected to in case the failure is something like a rack/roof bar/etc - that is your second tier of connection in case the first fails. ANd if possible, do enough secondary connections so that if the kayak did get away, it stays with the vehicle/trailer in such a way that it would only flop around on the roof or trailer.....not get dragged down the road.
