My hand controlled trolling motor went out on me, and the only thing I can think it would be is that the trolling motor switch got wet an burnt out. Do y'all think this is what it could be? And if I buy a new switch should that fix the problem?
Thanks.

Unless you can actually see that the switch is burnt/melted that is probably not your problem. There is several other things it could be. Take it to a t.m. repair shop and they can get it goin for you. Where are you at?

Boris Marine and Jeremy Walker over near the intersection of Irving Blvd and Mockingbird Lane in Dallas are the two closest.

Boris is on Azle Ave a couple blocks inside the 820 loop. The exit to Eagle Mountain and take a left.

The switch could be the culprit but it could be several others. A volt meter could check that out and you could try bypassing the switch.

Putting a meter on it is a quick way to determine if the switch is the problem, though it is the likely culprit as they do go out every couple of years when wired traditionally.

So you only run one switch for yours?

If your talking about a big foot switch, yes those commonly go out. I was thinking about a on/off switch on the head or something like that

True, I forgot about that one: and I shouldn't have since I had to replace mine a few months ago. Yes, a meter will definitely let you know quickly if it is the problem.

over the last few months I have become a expert on tearing apart and putting back together my trolling motor, Mine is a hand held as well and I do have the big foot. You can wire back direct to your trolling motor and if it works then you know it is your big foot, Check your plug and make sure it is good, Check your little fuse box attached to the battery and make sure it is ok. If your trolling motor still does not work, Pull the motor itself, there you have two bruses, They have a spring that pushes them to the arature, Sometimes they might slip out and you get no power. Hope this helps
