Would catching a bird with your hand make a thump sound!??

I have been on many guided hunts down around Del Rio where the birds are brought in in a trailer (2000 birds for 6 weeks of hunters). The guide puts 7-8 birds each in a burlap sack and spins them to make them dizzy just before he puts them out under some bush or mesquite tree that has fallen. He will put out some 60-70 birds. These birds have been raised in a barn that has automatic feeders so they have never seen a human most of their lives. While they are not used to seeing humans, they are not taught to be afraid of them either. He then comes back and loads up the three to four hunters and out we go. If we kill over 50%, its a good hunt. What don't get shot either get a chance at freedom or become dinner for some hawk. But I could easily see that bird flying by the guy and him grabbing it. Those birds are fat and slow. I have seen a bunch of them taken down by the dog running up from behind and jumping up and grabbing it. If that was a wild quail, it would not have flown anywhere close to that hunter. I think its real, but farm raised quail.

Life is one big playground. Be sure to ride all the rides before it closes.

My buddy does hunts in GA with pen raised birds. Sometimes you have to hit them with the toe of your boot to get them to flush. Definitely not the same as a wild covey.

ask your buddy if they spin the birds before they plant them...

As a Wildlife Management student at Auburn University in 78' our class toured a working quail plantation...4000 acres...if it had to do with pen raised quail from egg to death (by birdshot), the biologist's for the plantation not only explained it to us, he let us tour every aspect of the operation...it was very interesting...

edit: you should have seen the 24 gorgeous bird dogs they had...

You can believe it or not, a buddy of mine reacted to one flying into him and made like a swinging bunt with the buttstock his shotgun, the bird dropped dead. We still laugh about it.
